Steps of the User-Centered Design Process
The design process is iterative. Repeat steps 2, 3 and 4 as necessary.

Step 1: Planning
  • Document business objectives
  • Document design constraints
  • Create user interface design team
  • Determine level of user involvement
  • Determine how usability will be evaluated

Step 2: Requirements
  • Conduct user study to determine characteristics of user population
  • Identify and document user tasks
  • Create "vision" prototype to clarify and validate requirements
  • Determine usability goals
Step 4: Test
  • Recruit participants
  • Create test scenarios
  • Conduct usability test
  • Document findings and recommendations
  • Update prototype
Step 3: Design
  • Create conceptual model
  • Develop design prototype
  • Create interface style guide
  • Create user interface design specification
  • Create usability test plan
